Dear citizens
of the South Eifel municipality,
We want you to live safely.
In recent weeks, the police in the southern Eifel region have recorded a conspicuous increase in thefts from vehicles. What is particularly worrying is that the vehicles concerned were not locked at the time of the theft.
This carelessness makes it particularly easy for thieves to open an unlocked car unnoticed and steal valuables.
The perpetrators take advantage of every opportunity as soon as vehicles are left unattended in parking lots, on side streets or even directly in front of residential buildings.
A quick tug on the door handle is all it takes. An unlocked car is an invitation to thieves.
The police therefore make an urgent appeal:
- Lock your car - even for short stops such as shopping or a visit to the doctor.
- Do not leave any valuables visible in the vehicle.
- Remove bags, navigation devices, cell phones and other items from the vehicle. Even seemingly worthless items offer thieves an incentive.
- Check carefully whether the doors, windows, sunroof and trunk are really locked.
Remember: a vehicle is not a safe place to store valuables.
Hiding places such as the glove compartment or under the seats have long been known to thieves and do not offer sufficient protection.
Vigilant neighbor: If you make suspicious observations or notice unusual occurrences in your neighborhood, please contact your local police station at any time. Together we can make your community safer.
